AAIEP Advocacy Alert - June 27th Update
Immigration Reform Act Resurrected in the Senate
Membership Support Needed Now on IEP Accreditation Amendment
Yesterday, the Senate voted to renew debate on the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, now known as S. 1639. Your support is needed now for Senators Norm Coleman (R-MN) and Tom Carper's (D-DE) IEPs accreditation amendment. The amendment is now designated as S.A. 1963. This amendment is supported by AAIEP, UCIEP and TESOL, for it requires IEPs to be accredited prior to receiving SEVIS certification.
Contact your Senators directly (visit www.senate.gov to find contact information) or use the TESOL U.S. Advocacy Action Center and follow the link to the SEVIS/IEP Action Alert. Emails and phone calls are needed now. Tell your Senators to speak to Senators Kennedy and Spector urging them to allow the Coleman/Carper amendment to be offered.
Senator Coleman's and Carper's amendment and the AAIEP talking points on accreditation are available on the AAIEP website. [See previous news posting.]
